Lemonade has been around a long time
The earliest written record of Lemonade goes all the way back to 12th century Egypt, but this beloved beverage may go back even further. A medieval Jewish community in the 10th century had a beverage named ‘Qatarmizat’ which was a mixture of lemon juice and sugar. In the 12th century an Arabic doctor wrote about its heath benefits, and the beverage spread to Europe. Unfortunately the ingredients were expensive so it was initially only available to the wealthy and the sick.
Is the idea of Lemonade and alcohol ironic?
During the Victorian movement, Ladies of the Temperance movement pushed lemonade as an alternative to alcohol. In fact, Sunkist had a slogan, ‘Good-bye to liquor, here’s to lemonade’. The White House banned alcohol from all state functions from 1877-1881. In fact, Rutherford B. Hayes’ wife Lucy, a renowned teetotaler, was dubbed, ‘Lemonade Lucy’

What are tips for Making Cocktails for a Party?
- Simplify. Rather than making multiple cocktails, chose a signature cocktail that will create a delicious experience for your guests.
- Prepare a batch mixture of your cocktail ahead of time and chill. Your guests can immediately receive a cocktail at the perfect temperature.
- Prepare your cocktail glasses ahead of time. Whether a Martini glass or cocktail glass, you can have your glasses chilled, and garnished. Garnish with a lime wheel, or rim the glass with graham cracker crumbs (as in this recipe), or a more creative flourish- prepare ahead
- Set up your Bar or Self-serve Beverage Station. . Just before the party you can pull out your ice bucket, your garnished glasses, and even pour a few cocktails for your first guests. Remember to have a picture of water, and some non-alcoholic options such as sparkling water, juice or sodas.
- Be in the moment- Your friends want to see and enjoy you!
