Mango Lassie Cocktail Ingredients

  • 1 cup Frozen Mango Chunks or fresh ripe sweet Mangoes, or frozen Mango pulp, canned pulp, or use canned alphonso Mangoes. or use Mango puree
  • ½ cup Plain Yogurt (whole milk)
  • 4 oz Coconut Rum
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg

Instructions

Make an Adult Mango Lassi Cocktail

  • Combine all ingredients into a Blender or Ninja Bullet
  • Blend until smooth
  • Pour into an attractive glass or mason jar
  • Garnish with a chunk of Mango, and or sprinkle of Nutmeg
  • Serve Immediately

What is a Lassi drink?

Mango Lassis have enjoyed increasing popularity at Indian restaurants, but they are so easy to make at home.  A Lassi is a blended Indian drink with dahl (yogurt,) or buttermilk, water, spices, and sometimes fruit, with a smoothie -like consistency.  The Lassi features the sweetness of mangoes and the tartness of the yogurt for a refreshing summer drink.  In our Cuss Kitchen recipe, we add Coconut Rum to amp up the Lassi, and make an interesting grown-up smoothie cocktail you will love.

 

Where does the Lassi come from?

The Lassi is an ‘ancient smoothie’ that originated somewhere around 1000 BC and featured fruits and pure spices.  Originally from Punjab, a region in northwestern India, the Lassi fits perfectly with savory and spicy and delicious Indian cuisine.  The earliest mentions of Lassi have been found in the ancient Indian texts dating as far back as 1000 BC.  It is today, one of the most popular beverages in Northern India.

Tips for making a Mango Lassi Cocktail

  • You can use the fresh ripe Mangos you have, or use canned Alphonso Mango pulp, but frozen mango pieces are an excellent way to add an icy texture to your cocktail.  Frozen Mango is easy to find in the freezer section of your favorite grocery store.
  • Use whole Milk Yogurt for a richer flavor
  • Garnish with a piece of Mango, a light dusting of Nutmeg.  You might also enjoy a few finely chopped pistachio nuts on top
