What is Aperol?
Aperol is a citrus liqueur that is an interesting blend of sweet and bitter. Combing orange, rhubarb, herbs and spices, Aperol has been enjoyed for over 100 years. The Aperol Spritz has become a staple of the Italian Apertivo. It is traditionally served in the mid-afternoon, to relax and enjoy Dolce Far Niente- ‘the Art of doing Nothing’.
Aperol FAQ’s
Is Aperol high in Alcohol?
Aperol is 11% Alcohol by volume- (similar to wine). Aperol is not a wine, it is considered a liqueur, and best enjoyed cold.
Is Aperol good for the stomach?
Of course, if you over-indulge, it is a bad thing, but Italians believe that Aperol settles the stomach. It might be the liqueur, but it might also be the art of relaxing in the mid-afternoon, or even after a meal. Especially enjoyable while participating in ‘Dolce far Niente’ – the art of doing nothing.
Are Aperol and Campari similar?
Both Aperol and Campari are liqueurs that have been enjoyed in Italy for over 100 years. While the sunny Orange Aperol has a hint of bitterness, the citrus , rhubarb, her and spices combine to give a mostly sweet flavor. While the iconic red Campari is also citrusy, it features more spice like Clove and Cinnamon. Both liqueurs are commonly featured as a Spritz during mid-day cocktails- Aperitivo, or as an after dinner Digestivo. If an Aperol Spritz is too sweet for you, you might try the Campari Spritz.
Should I refrigerate Aperol after opening?
Yes, Aperol will stay fresh for 3-4 months in the refrigerator.
Which cocktails feature Aperol?
Of course, the Aperol spritz gets all the attention, but there are several tasty ways you can try the citrusy flavor of Aperol. Popular cocktails featuring this liqueur include the Aperol Margarita, the Negroni, the Airedale, the Paper Plane and the DB Cooper.
