Where does the Bundt come from?
Three Jewish women were interested in making the cakes they grew up with in Germany and talkedย to David Dalquist of Nordic wareย about making a custom designed pan in 1946.ย Dalquist started making lighter, thinner version of the pan in the 1950’sย and later patented them for Nordic ware.ย Dalquist named the pan Bundt, after the German Bundkuchen, which translates to a cake for Gatherings.

- Bundt cake pan
Materials
Wet Ingredients
- 1 Cup Sour Cream
- 4 Eggs
- ยฝ Cup Oil
- ยฝ Cup Water
- 1 Banana Smashed
Dry Ingredients
- 1 Box Yellow Cake mix Pillsbury Moist Supreme or similar
- 6 Tbsp Vanilla Instant Pudding
Mix-ins
- 2 4oz Ghirardelli Semi-sweet Baking Bars Finely chopped
- ยฝ cup Walnuts Finely chopped
Instructions
Preheat Oven to 325
Prepare Baking Pan
- Use Cooking spray to lightly coat the inside of a Bundt pan
- Spread flour evenly n the inside of the Bundt pan.
Mix Wet Ingredients
- Start by mixing eggs. Add water, oil, smashed banana, and sour cream. Mix until blended
Add Dry Ingredients
- Add Cake mix, and Pudding, and mix until well combined (Do not over mix)
- Add Finely chopped Chocolate and Walnuts
Bake at 325 for 1 hour
What is the difference between a Bundt and a Pound Cake?
Was the Bundt Cake or Pound Cake invented first?
Pound cakes dates back to the 1700s in Northern Europe. The British may have been the first maker of such a cake, but American variations also existed.ย The original recipes called for one pound of eggs, flour, sugar, and butter.
Bundt cakes are a more recent invention.ย The original German Bundkuchen goes back generations, but in the 1950s, the Owner of Nordic Ware, H. David Dalquist, invented a uniquely shaped pan called a โBundt panโ .ย In 1966, when a Bundt cake called the “Tunnel of Fudge”, took second place at the Pillsbury Bake-Off and won its baker $5,000- the American Bundt became hugely popular. Bundt cakes surged again in the late 90’s with a popular new rose-shaped design pan.
Is a Bundt Cake shaped differently than a Pound cake?
A Bundt cake, will require a Bundt pan, which is specifically made for this type of cake. The pan is circular and the sides are grooved or fluted, with a cylindrical tube, called a chimney. T
The chimney creates a central hole, and the furrows on the side give the outer surface of the cake a grooved pattern. The iconic Bundt cake shape that is easily recognizable.ย The unique shape of the pan allows more of the cake to be in contact with the heat.ย This ensures that the heat is spread evenly throughout the cake.
A pound cake or loaf is made in a variety of cake pans.
Are Bundt Cake and Pound Cake recipes different?
Bundt Cakes can feature a variety of recipes.

This is the most delicious cake – the sour cream adds such a lovely moist texture, and the chocolate and banana is a fantastic flavour combination. We served with a dusting of powdered sugar.
